Dr. Paparozzi holds a Ph.D. in Criminology from Rutgers University. He is a certified public manager and has completed numerous training courses related to corrections, criminal justice and public administration.
Dr. Mario Paparozzi began his career in criminal justice in 1972. From 1972 until 1998, he worked at the New Jersey Department of Corrections. During that time, he worked as a parole officer and various managerial positions until becoming Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Interstate Compact Administrator. Dr. Paparozzi culminated his practitioner career serving as Chairman of The New Jersey State Parole Board.
In 1998, Dr. Paparozzi accepted a faculty appointment at The College of New Jersey in their Department of Law and Justice. At The College of New Jersey, Dr. Paparozzi also served as the Associate Director of The Criminal Justice Center - the research and technical arm of the Department of Law and Justice. Dr. Paparozzi left The College of New Jersey to accept an appointment at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke where he is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Criminal Justice.
Dr. Paparozzi has published extensively on a variety of topics related to criminal justice, public administration and other civic issues involving the relationship between government services and public value. He has also served as an expert witness in civil and criminal litigation providing analyses and opinions related to the administration of the courts and corrections.
Over the years, Dr. Paparozzi has provided numerous keynote addresses, seminars and professional training in 47 states, the District of Columbia, The United Kingdom, Canada, Bermuda, and The Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France. He has appeared on several television and radio shows in the United States and Canada, has published articles in major newspapers and has been interviewed by numerous representatives of the print media on topics related to criminal justice, government and other civic-minded issues.
Dr. Paparozzi is the past president of the American Probation and Parole Association, a member of the Manhattan Institute's council to reinvent probation and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Crime Victim's Legal Center.
